Selling your Car? Basic tips to make it easier

Put yourself into the position of the buyer. Look at you car through those eyes to determine price, appeal, condition and desirability. Be objective and realistic in your expectations, especially if you want to sell quickly. Cars are usually something people shop around for so prepare to have to do some work for the sale.

1. Determine Value and then try to maximise it. Use local sources such as newspapers, auto magazines, Kelly blue book and others to find the true value of your vehicle in the local market. Then try to make your vehicle be superior to the average. Perform any repairs that are required and have documentation ready to show any potential buyers that your vehicle has a history of proper maintenance and that it is in good running order with no safety concerns.

2. Clean the vehicle. Make sure both outside and inside receive as close to perfect condition as possible. Cover up chips with touch up paint and wash and wax the exterior. Shampoo dirty carpets and use plastic/leather care products on you dash and doors. Don't forget the truck, engine compartment or ashtray. If your a smoker make sure the vehicle headliner is scrubbed hard to get all traces of smoke/yellowing removed. Take care to clean glass and to lubricate door hinges and locks if possible.

3. Display the vehicle in the appropriate place. Find a busy area full of people that may be interested in your vehicle. Don't waste time by parking a work truck in the high end part of town or a high end sports car next to red neck hangout. Keep it clean and display your contact information legibly. Also some people find it a good idea not to disclose the price on the sign, this encourages people to contact you if they are seriously interested.

4. Use the Internet as a display tool. Make sure to place ads in online listings. Usually this is free of charge and will get your vehicle seen by a massive amount of people.

5. Be flexible with the price. Have an understanding of the value of the car and keep in mind any aspects of your particular vehicle that would either lower or raise its value based upon the average. Be realistic, some people may not value that stereo that you are selling with the car and no one values that car for the memories you have with it.

6. Be truthful. Do not hid any details that you know about the car. If something major is wrong with it, get it fixed before you sell or be ready to accept a price drop to compensate a buyer for the costs they will incur to get the problem fixed.

7. Never sell an unsafe car! Doing so is despicable, even if it isn't ILLEGAL
