Summer is just around the corner and the travel season is approaching. Each year millions of America head out on the road to their various summer destination spots. Road trips have become an annual summer tradition for many families. Road trips can be fun and enjoyable from start to finish with the proper planning. It is important to take proper precaution to ensure a safe and memorable vacation.
Planning Summer Road TripsChoosing where you are going can be the hardest thing of all. Trying to keep everyone happy can be hard but when considering where to go. However it is important to consider cost and your family’s interest level. Get everyone involved in the planning and take suggestions from everyone. Think about places that you can stop and look at on the way to your final destination. Make time for fun so that you are not just stuck in the car for hours at a time. Stopping at a mall or local amusement attack are all activities that might be fun. Pick out the best routes to take and beware of any special construction or detours that are going on. If you are driving your own car it is important to pay special attention to your car maintenance. Putting your car through a long trip without proper maintenance may cause you to end up on the side of the road. It is recommended that you take your car to a professional that you trust. Have them check your tires for any damage. They should look for any abnormal or excessive wear on the tread, they are all property inflated and that you have a spare in working condition. The levels of all your fluids should be checked. Oil is of course very important, so if necessary obtain an oil change before taking a trip. Keep in mind that higher grade oil is sometimes recommended for long mileage trips. However don’t forget about the other fluid levels such as antifreeze, steering and windshield wiper. Your windshield is going to take on plenty of bugs so you are going to need those wipers. Make sure to check your brakes and ensure that they are functioning properly. Check the condition of your car battery because high temperature can cause the degradation of batteries especially older ones. Most importantly check your fuel system and make sure that it is in good condition. Other small things that are just as important are working seatbelts and headlights. Road trips can be long so you should bring things along to keep everyone occupied. If you have kids allowing them to bring a few toys, books or games will definitely save you a lot of headache later. Portable DVD players and mp3 players are very popular and they can help the time go by faster. Pillows and blankets for naps will also ensure that everyone is able to have a little comfort when resting. Pit stops are important so make time for those. You will have to stop to eat and drink so plan to stop at one place where everyone can eat. This helps to cut down on the number of stops needed if everyone is eating at the same time. There will be some parts of the trip where there are not many places to stop or they are closed so it is important to pack snacks and food to bring along on the trip. Pack things that everyone can enjoy and some people even bring a small cooler. If you are trying to cut costs this will lead to less stops for eating and each individual can eat whenever they get ready. |
